About

Who we are

SII-Uk is a UK based charity that works with people struggling with the tough realities of disabilities, abject poverty and related challenges brought by violent conflicts on people living with disabilities.

We work to address issues of poverty and human rights while advancing the educational, physical and mental wellbeing of people living with disabilities.

Our Vision

Stronger, more inclusive, diverse, and resilient communities of PLD who have experienced meaningful and lasting changes in attitudes, behaviours and community life. We envision a world where PLD are aware of their rights and have the required skills to keep them self-reliant and active members of their communities

Our Mission

Ensuring that people living with disabilities and poverty realise their potentials and live more fulfilling lives by promoting their economic empowerment, education, physical, psychological, and social wellbeing.

Where we work

We focus on PLD and abject poverty in remote communities – especially those experiencing high rates of poverty, violent conflict, or war.

Our priority areas are currently Cameroon and Uganda

Our Values

Diversity

Diversity SII-UK believes that communities and the world benefit from the contributions of people living with disabilities and the diverse personal characteristics they bring to the world. To us, people living with disabilities must be treated at all times with respect and dignity.

Self-determination

Self-determination SII-UK believes in self-advocacy and self-determination. For us, if people living with disabilities have the appropriate support and resources, they can make decisions about their own lives; they must be heard on issues that affect their wellbeing. Our works ensure that people living with disabilities can enjoy the benefits of productivity through employment, enjoy full mobility and accessibility, exercise choice and control in all areas of their lives

Equality

Equality SII-UK believes that all people living with disabilities belong to a community and have their own fundamental moral, civic and constitutional rights and must, at all times, be included and actively participate in all aspects of life in their communities

People First

People First At SII-UK, we believe that all people living with disabilities are people first and are defined by their own abilities, strengths, and fundamental values – not by any form of their disability. As such, our work is grounded on building real friendships with them and ensuring they have what it takes to communicate freely on their needs, priorities, and concerns.
